With the weather warming up now is the time to start thinking about all those days spent outside and protecting our skin! My family spends a lot of time outdoors in the Summer - beach vacations, hiking, going to the lake, pool, and playing sports. While having fun in the sun is the top priority, protecting our skin from harmful rays is just as important. Having sensitive skin I need an SPF that not only protects but also one that is non-irritating to my temperamental skin. Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen provides the broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection you need to keep you and your family safe from the sun.

Today I am sharing my beach bag essentials. The must-have necessities that I always pack with me when hitting up the sea and sand. A fully stocked beach bag is key to maximizing your fun in the sun!

The Bag
A spacious, generously sized bag is what I look for when choosing a beach bag. Somehow we end up packing a large bag full! I also like to take along zippered pouches. There are so many cute little beach themed pouches out now! They are perfect for keeping your small items together and easy to find in your bag.

Sun Hat
I never go to the beach with out a floppy hat or a ball cap. I have become a bit of a Summer hat collector. A hat can shield you from the bright sun while protecting your scalp, neck, and your hair color. Beaches can be notoriously windy so while your hair will still be whipping in the wind a hat will tame it from being totally in your face.

How fun is this big floppy hat with the slogan "Resting Beach Face"? I just picked this one up and can't wait to wear it this Summer!

Cheap Sunglasses
After losing an expensive pair of sunnies to the ocean I never take anything over $20 with me now. Sunglasses can become scratched by the sand and smudged with sunscreen, or like I experienced eaten by the ocean. Make sure they have UVA/UVB protection to keep your eyes safe from UV rays. Taking a back up pair isn't a bad idea either!

Rubber Flip Flops
Rubber flip flops are easy to wear and they rinse off easily. You can wear them in the water with out having to worry about dry time.

Cover up & Rash Guard
A cute cover up can take you from a day at the beach to out to lunch and shopping right after.

A rash guard is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The swim shirts made popular by surfers offer sun protection while still being cool. My back and shoulders are always the first to get burnt. These have saved me from misery more than once. I highly recommend picking one up if you are doing any water sports or snorkeling.

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen® Sensitive 5 oz.
Being pale with sensitive burn-prone skin, SPF is something I live by when spending time outdoors. Blue Lizard® products have a unique zinc oxide formulation and provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection (SPF30+). Dermatologist recommended for over 15 years. They are ranked as one of the top sunscreens by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

The Sensitive variety is paraben-free, chemical-free and fragrance-free. I was so happy to find a sunscreen in a sensitive formula. I don't have any hesitation about how my skin will react after putting it on and I can enjoy my time in the sun with out worry.

Patented Smart Bottle™ technology - bottle changes color when exposed to harmful UV sunlight. This can be used as a great reminder on when to re-apply sunscreen.

How cool is the color changing bottle? As you can see when I had it out in the sun it changes to blue. This is such a fantastic feature! It visually alerts you to when it's time to re-apply.

You can easily find Blue Lizard® at Walmart stores. I picked mine up in The Sun Zone in the Seasonal section of the store. Also look for it in the sunscreen aisle. Join iBotta and earn $4.00 when you purchase Blue Lizard® Australian Sunscreen - Sensitive, 5 oz. bottle only.

Reading Material & Music
The month before a beach vacation I save up all of my magazine subscriptions for reading material. Create a special beach play list on your ipod of beach time music. I love listening to Sublime! A waterproof pouch will protect your electronics from getting wet. It can save you from running for your life towards your phone when the tide comes up a little too high.

Lip Balm
A moisturizing lip balm with SPF will keep you lips soothed and protected. I generally don't wear makeup to the beach but when I want to feel a little more polished I pop on a sheer moisturizing lip color. Go with a pencil lip color. They won't melt as easily as a lipstick tube does when exposed to warm temperatures.

Metallic temporary tattoos are a fun way to accessorize your beach look. They are much more practical than wearing real jewelry and will never get lost on the beach!
Sea Salt Hair Spray
It may seem odd to take a long a salt spray when swimming in salt water. However, any one who has emerged from the ocean knows you don't come out with cascading mermaid waves. To take my hair from day at the beach to beautiful beachy waves I spray a few pump of sea salt spray in to my hair and comb through with a tangle free brush. The oils in the spray combined with the salt will soften and tame your hair. I take a couple fabric hair ties along too for when I want to put my hair up. I say a couple because they always get lost!
