Urban Decay Heavy Metal Holiday Collection Review & Swatches

Urban Decay is after this punk rock girls heart this season with their Heavy Metal Holiday Collection. Giving us all the glitter, the sparkle, and the crazy metallic effects, this is no ordinary holiday party makeup. From an all-metallic shadow palette and new shades of glitter liner to a lip palette loaded with metallized and matte shades, it's all here. Let's see what this holiday glam rock collection has to offer!

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette ($55) is shadow mayhem in a crushed metal case. We packed this limited-edition palette with 20 of our most amped-up metallic shadows yet—and every single one is NEW and exclusive. Inject your look with a hit of glam rock for daytime or go full-on metal for a night out.

From standout jewel tones like Amp (a killer metallic teal) and Twisted (glimmering gold) to ultra-flattering neutrals like Demo (bronze-rose) and Afterparty (an amazing metallic red), this palette has everything you need to create endless metallic looks. And it’s all organized by color: brights on the left, neutrals on the right.

Urban Decay developed a whole new Eyeshadow formula for this palette. Bumping up the foiled effect to create their most metallic shadows ever. In doing so, they carefully crafted the formula on every shade to make sure each one would apply with a soft and creamy texture and create intense, shiny metallic effects. Every shade has a velvety feel for the perfect application, provides insane color payout and blends like a dream.

The killer lavender case has a crushed metal effect on one end…kind of like we smashed it while rocking out. It’s so gorgeous…like a modern art sculpture you’ll want to show off. Just imagine the gasps of, “WHAT’S THAT?!” when your friends see this baby. The palette slides open to dramatically reveal the shadow tray. When you’re ready to work your makeup magic, just pull the palette out and use Heavy Metals like a painter’s palette. Of course, we included a big mirror, so not only is this palette glamrock hot, it’s totally practical too.

Ground (black w/iridescent shimmer), Spandex (deep blue with purple shift and blue micro-sparkle), Metalhead (deep purple), Mullet (deep green), Twisted (gold), Aluminum (warm gray-taupe with iridescent micro-sparkle), Dive (medium blue), Punk Rock (fuchsia), Amp (bright teal), Glamrock (silver)

Bass (bronze), Demo (bronze-rose), Afterparty (red), Roadie (burgundy), Scream (mauve), Glory (golden bronze), Starfire (bright copper), Angelfire (pale pink), Maiden (beige), and Acoustic (nude)

I have been obsessed with the blinc metallic eyeshadow trio palette for months and these shadows are JUST like those. They go on creamy, intensely pigmented, and beam on the eyes. I absolutely love that they made this palette for both bright and neutral lovers. It really is like two separate palettes in one. Every shadow is gorgeous and bonus points for all new shades and no fallout. The only thing I disliked about this palette is the packaging. It is HEAVY and in the clunky way. The palette also slides out and doesn't lock correctly so it can easily come crashing out on to the floor.

Questionable packaging aside this palette is amazing. They nailed that cream to powder metallic formula. There are a few shades that are drier than others, mostly the glitter infused shades, but even those were still excellent. If you are unsure about an all metallic palette, pop one of these shades on your lids and you will see all their glory. When applied lightly they are just like a shimmer shadow and not too intense. My favorite way to apply these is with my finger and press them on to the lids. They really shine this way and pair beautifully with the matte's from the NAKED palettes.

VICE Metal Meets Matte Lipstick Palette ($35)
The makeup junkie’s go-to for overnighters, Vice Metal Meets Matte Lipstick Palette features 12 addictive shades from our massive lipstick collection (six are new). The perfect lineup to take you from nighttime into the next morning, this limited-edition palette contains six metallized shades and six matte shades—from dark, sultry hues to failsafe neutrals to bold brights. The shades are all organized by finish and color family—metallized shades up top, with coordinating matte shades underneath.

Start with a metallized shade for a night out. When that night rolls into the next morning and you haven’t made it back home, channel your alter ego by switching to the corresponding matte shade for daytime. From new shades like Spark (bright red with tonal shimmer), Banger (deep oxblood), and Shallow (lavender) to cult-favorite shades like Big Bang (bright pink sparkle) and Backtalk (mauve-nude pink), this palette has all your needs covered. This is the Vice Lipstick formula you know and love, just poured into a palette. Our proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ gives each shade its super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior color dispersion. Yummy Butter Blend comforts, hydrates and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, never dry.

I have said it a million times now that Urban Decay VICE Lipstick's are my favorite's and I rarely use anything else. I love these lip palette's because they allow for trying many different colors from the line with out having to purchase full sizes of all of them.

The six new mettalized shades are stunning with a mettalic shine that doesn't feel gritty. Banger is incredible looking on! I also really loved the two more wearable mauvey mettalics Amulet and Fast Talk. Spark is amazingly smooth and so dang in your face bright. The way they coordinated these to be basically the same shades just in mettalic and matte finishes is a really cool idea for a lip palette.

Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($20)
All the glitz of glam rock—without the spandex or bad hair—Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner contains superfine glitter in a clear base that dries down quickly and really stays put (for long wear without any fallout). Wear it alone, apply it over Urban Decay’s eyeshadow, or layer two shades together for a more intense effect.

There are six new shades in the Holiday Collection:
  • Pyro Iridescent and silver glitter
  • Gammy Ray Bright blue and silver glitter
  • Punk Rock Iridescent brown glitter
  • Grind Light pink iridescent glitter
  • Catcall Pink glitter
  •  Stix and Stones Iridescent maroon glitter
UD Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner is my OG Holy Grail of Glitter. It is everything you love about glitter minus everything you hate (the mess!). Heavy Metal Glitter Liners hold a special place in my makeup heart. I remember saving up my money to buy Midnight Cowboy when I first started doing makeup and it's still one of my all time beauty product favs. Even though I am past my glitter wearing days I will dabble with Heavy Metal's. The thin brush lets you swipe on just enough sparkle to look glam not gaudy and won't irritate sensitive eyes.

My favorite shades are of coure Midnight Cowboy, the prettiest pale gold. Glam Rock is a gorgeous true silver. From the new shades, Pyro is a sweet blend of baby pastels that would look so pretty over a creamy shimmer shadow and Stix and Stones looks awesome over black liquid liner. I would Skip Punk Rock, the glitter wasn't as sparkly in this one as the others.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Collection hits all the right cords for me. If there is one must-have from the collection it's the Heavy Metals Mettalic Eyeshadow Palette. So stunning! You might want to pick up the VICE Palette and the six new Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner's too because this collection is limited-edition, it will surely be on everyones gift list! #HeavyMetalHoliday
